Enabling Data-Driven Politics

Fostering political debate, independent of ideology, through the democratization of data and access to the tools that derive meaningful insight from it.

Driving Change
& Accountability

The Democratis Project™ seeks to dismantle the barriers that prevent data driven insight generation cultivating a more informed and engaged electorate whether you align to the left, right or middle of the political spectrum.  We saw a convergence of opportunity formed by the rise of political activism amongst conservatives and liberals, the current state of politics as well as the unprecedented  advances in data, technology & innovation.   Capitalizing on this, our hope is to shift the focus of political discourse amongst Democrats and Republicans towards data driven debates & greater accountability for our elected officials.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@RepAOC) won her seat in Congress and has maintained her position through a combination of grassroots organizing, data-driven campaigning, and her ability to leverage social media.  Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, or AOC as she is commonly known,  ran a grassroots campaign, unseating Joe Crowley, a ten-term Democratic incumbent in New York’s 14th Congressional District. Crowley was seen as out of touch with the community, and AOC highlighted this by focusing on local issues, such as housing and healthcare, which resonated with voters in her district.  Ocasio-Cortez targeted his absenteeism from the district and his ties to corporate interests. She used data to emphasize the district’s demographic shifts, showing how Crowley’s platform no longer aligned with the working-class, minority population that had grown in the area.

In one of the closest congressional races in U.S. history, Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks won Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District by just six votes, defeating Democrat Rita Hart. Miller-Meeks’ campaign focused on issues like healthcare reform, rural economic development, and Hart’s record in the Iowa State Senate. Using targeted voter data, her campaign highlighted Hart’s alignment with national Democratic policies that were unpopular in this more rural district.  Using polling and voter data, her campaign focused on dissatisfaction with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and concerns about access to healthcare in rural areas. She aligned her message with the frustrations of rural voters by advocating for reforms to the ACA and emphasizing her professional background in medicine to build credibility.  These efforts allowed her to win in a district that had traditionally leaned Democratic.
